SOLAR BATTERY INCENTIVES FOR NSW HOMES & BUSINESSES

From 1 November 2024, the NSW Solar Battery Rebate helps households and businesses with existing rooftop solar to reduce energy costs and enhance efficiency by installing battery storage and connecting to a Virtual Power Plant (VPP).

Rebates Available

Upfront Battery Installation Rebate: $1,600–$2,400, depending on battery size.
VPP Connection Incentive: $250–$400, claimable twice with a minimum three-year gap.

Eligibility Requirements

Existing rooftop solar system installed.
Battery capacity of 2 kWh to 28 kWh.
Battery installed by an accredited provider under the Peak Demand Reduction Scheme (PDRS).

Solar power helps reduce monthly electricity costs, but joining a Virtual Power Plant (VPP) takes your savings even further. With the NSW Solar Battery Incentives, eligible households and businesses can receive an additional rebate of $250 to $400 for connecting their solar battery to a VPP, claimable twice with a minimum three-year gap.

A VPP, or Virtual Power Plant, is a cloud-based network of residential solar power systems controlled by a centralised smart system. It enables participants to:

Discovery Energy VPP Eligibility Criteria

Here’s the eligibility criteria for the Discovery Energy VPP:

Inverter size should not be more than 10 kW
Battery size not lower than 2.5 kWh
No life support at the property (a compliance requirement)
Direct debit to be set up on the account
Credits can be encashed only 4 times a year provided each time the amount is more than $100
System to be connected to stable home wifi
Monthly billing & e-billing only
Inverter and battery to be from the approved eligible list of products
