Solar Battery Loans For Victorian Homes

After several years of offering solar rebates, Solar Victoria now shifts towards providing 4,500 interest-free loans through the Solar Homes Program. The loans will be allocated on a first-come, first-serve basis, marking a change in their approach after years of rebate offerings. Starting July 1, 2023, eligible households can now apply for interest-free loans of up to $8,800. These loans can be utilised to lower electricity expenses by installing solar batteries in their homes.

While the Victorian Government will no longer accept applications for solar battery rebates from June 30 onwards, rebate applications that were filed before June 30 will still be processed.

Solar panel and hot water system rebates, on the other hand, will continue. Solar Victoria has confirmed that the government has allocated 53,000 rebates for solar panels for 2023-2024, at the current rate of $1,400, with another $1,400 available as an interest-free loan.The government has 4,500 hot water rebates of $1,000 available for 2023-2024.

The Interest-Free Loan Eligibility Guidelines include:

You need to be the owner-occupier of a property where the installation of the solar battery system will take place.
The total annual taxable income of all owners in the household must not exceed $180,000.
The property's value should be below $3 million
The property address should not have been previously granted a solar battery rebate
The property must either have an existing solar panel system with an inverter capacity of 5kW or more, or you need to make arrangements to have one installed alongside the solar battery.
The battery energy storage solution must have a capacity of 6kWh or higher and be listed on Solar Victoria's battery product list. Additionally, the property should not already have an existing energy storage system in place.

Solar Battery Rebates for Small Businesses

The Solar for Business Program has stopped accepting applications for business rebates after June 30, 2023. However, applications from customers who successfully submitted them before 6pm on June 30 will still be processed promptly. These customers will also receive further instructions regarding their applications. Once your application is approved, you will have 120 days to complete the installation.

Discovery Energy VPP Eligibility Criteria

Here’s the eligibility criteria for the Discovery Energy VPP:

Inverter size should not be more than 10 kW
Battery size not lower than 2.5 kWh
No life support at the property (a compliance requirement)
Direct debit to be set up on the account
Credits can be encashed only 4 times a year provided each time the amount is more than $100
System to be connected to stable home wifi
Monthly billing & e-billing only
Inverter and battery to be from the approved eligible list of products
